Early Morning Starks Fire Causes Major Damage to Home and Camper

STARKS, La. — A fire caused major damage to a house and camper in Starks early March 10. The fire prompted a multi-department mutual aid response, according to the Houston River Fire Department.

The fire was reported at about 2 a.m. in the 100 block of Fourth Street. Houston River Fire Department was dispatched on mutual aid to assist Ward 5 Fire Department. Other responding agencies included Ward Six Fire Protection District No. 1, Ward Seven Fire Department, and Deweyville, Texas, Fire Department.

Houston River Fire Department sent Engine 1, Service Unit 2, Rehab 1, Command Unit 91, and Command Unit 92 to the scene.

According to the department, Engine 1 and Service Unit 2 were assigned to fire suppression and overhaul. Command Unit 91 handled outside operations, and Command Unit 92 handled interior operations. Rehab 1 was used to help keep firefighters hydrated during the response.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control and extinguished it, officials said. The camper trailer and the home both sustained major damage.

No firefighters were injured while battling the fire, according to Houston River Fire Department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal is investigating the blaze.
