May 22 Crash on US 90 Claims Life of Unrestrained Louisiana Man

Louisiana –Troopers from LSP Troop I were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Darnall Road just north of US Highway 90 in Iberia Parish at approximately 1:10 a.m. on May 22, 2022. Donavar Yancy, 48, of Abbeville, died in the crash.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred while Yancy was driving west on US 90 West Frontage Road in a 2016 Mercedes 350. Yancy ran off the road after failing to negotiate a curve for unknown reasons. The vehicle then overturned several times before coming to rest on its roof near the center of Darnall Road.
At the time of the crash, Yancy was unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was obtained for analysis, and the crash is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Troopers would like to remind motorists that, while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that when properly restrained, the chances of surviving a crash increase significantly. Making wise decisions while driving, such as never driving while intoxicated and always ensuring all occupants are properly restrained, can often mean the difference between life and death.

Troop In 2022, I investigated 15 fatal crashes that resulted in 17 deaths.
