Early Morning Commercial Truck Crash on LA 28 Claims the Life of a Louisiana Man

On July 15, 2022, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a one-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 28 East near the Holloway Community. Byron Williams Jr., 62, of Bastrop, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.

The initial investigation revealed that Williams was driving a 2014 Commercial Freightliner westbound on Louisiana Highway 28 East. The Freightliner exited the roadway and collided with a culvert and a fence before coming to rest for unknown reasons. The Freightliner caught fire after colliding with the fence. Williams suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite not wearing a seat belt. Toxicology samples were collected and submitted for testing.

While the cause of this crash is still being investigated, distracted and inattentive driving remains a leading cause of accidents in our state. Louisiana State Police advises all motorists to drive cautiously. A lapse in judgment can have fatal consequences.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 20 fatal crashes so far in 2022, resulting in 21 fatalities.
