Drowning Victim Recovered in Louisiana in Multi-Agency Response at Cane River

Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana – A drowning victim was recovered in Louisiana in a multi-agency response at Cane River.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright stated that on May 14, 2023, shortly after 2:00 a.m., the Natchitoches Police Department contacted the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office (NPSO) for assistance with a possible drowning in Cane River near the 300 block of Jefferson Street in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office dive team members equipped with special sonar equipment, Natchitoches Parish Fire District #9, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Agents, and Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS all came to the incident.

According to NPSO Major Doug Rachal, a sheriff’s office rescue boat equipped with sonar was deployed into Cane River for search and rescue operations.
The body of a 21-year-old male who had been swimming in the region was retrieved by diving team members at 5:07 a.m.

The body was turned over to the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
