I-210 Bridge Construction Detour Routes for 2019 Work in Lake Charles

LADOTD has announced that repair work on the I-210 Prien Lake Bridge is estimated to begin Monday, January 7, 2019

Updated: The repair work has started on the I-210 Prien Lake Bridge and is expected to continue until early 2020. Since the beginning of the roadwork, there has been a significant increase in accidents on I-210 near the Prien Lake Bridge.

Due to the compressed construction schedule, construction work and lane closures will begin in phase one. Both directions of traffic on the I-210 Prien Lake Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Additionally, one direction will have a full closure Monday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. – 4 a.m during most of the work. Lane closures will be necessary to allow space for the contractor to work. Work is expected to last until early 2020.

Significant delays are to be expected on I-10 through Sulphur, Lake Charles, and Westlake, as well as I-210 in Lake Charles for the duration of the project. There may also be delays on other major roadways in the area between the hours of 5 a.m. – 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. due to local residents commuting to and from work.

Detour Routes

Local traffic can detour via Highways 378, 379, and 171 through Westlake, Moss Bluff, and Lake Charles.

Other alternate routes are listed below:

Passenger vehicles and trucks 25 tons and less can use LA 12 and US 190. LA 12 and US 190 can be accessed via LA 109, LA 27, US 171, or US 165.

Trucks greater than 25 tons can use US 190 and LA 12. US 190 and LA 12 can be accessed from the east via US 165 and US 171.

I-10 can also be used as a detour route, but expect possible delays.

Additionally, vehicles over 11 ft. wide may not travel through the work zone.
