Detectives in Louisiana Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect After he Reportedly Confessed During Questioning
Thibodaux, Louisiana – Detectives in Louisiana have arrested a suspect for an armed robbery at a local convenience store after he reportedly confessed during questioning.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced that detectives have made an arrest in an armed robbery that occurred in Thibodaux, Louisiana on the evening of Saturday, January 21, 2023. Nigel Washington, 47, of Thibodaux, Louisiana reportedly confessed to committing the robbery.
The incident occurred on January 21, 2023, around 6:30 p.m., at the Wag-A-Pak convenience store at 1715 St. Mary Street in Thibodaux, Louisiana. At the time, a man, later identified as Washington, reportedly entered the store with a firearm, demanded money, and left with cash. According to authorities, detectives believed he arrived and left the store on a bicycle during the initial investigation.
Detectives identified Washington as the suspect after an investigation, aided in part by anonymous tips received by Crime Stoppers Bayou Region. On January 23, detectives apprehended Washington in the Thibodaux area and questioned him. Washington reportedly admitted to the armed robbery during questioning. Detectives even recovered some of the stolen cash that Washington admitted to possessing. Detectives searched Washington’s home and discovered the firearm allegedly used in the robbery, as well as boots that matched those seen in surveillance videos.
Washington was taken into custody and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex. He was arrested and charged with armed robbery with a firearm. The bail amount is set at $200,000.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
