DeQuincy Motorcyclist Killed in Hwy 27 Crash Near Sulphur

Sulphur, LA – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle incident involving a motorcycle at the intersection of LA Hwy 27 and High Hope Road, north of Sulphur in Calcasieu Parish on December 31, 2021, shortly before 5:30 p.m. Ronald F. Dupuis, 73, of Dequincy, was killed in the crash.
The initial inquiry found that a 2005 Ford SUV driven by 69-year-old Greenville Ohio resident Johnny D. Wright was going west on High Hope Road. At the same time, Dupuis was riding a 2001 Honda motorcycle north on LA 27 and approached the crossroads with High Hope Road. Wright did not yield at a stop sign and drove straight through the intersection. The Ford was struck by the motorcycle as it approached the crossing. Dupuis was thrown from the motorcycle as a result of the collision.

Dupuis suffered major injuries despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet. He was taken to a hospital in the Sulphur area, where he died from his injuries. Wright was restrained appropriately and did not sustain any injuries. Although no impairment is suspected, toxicological samples were collected and sent for investigation. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
