DeQuincy Man Arrested for Armed Robbery in Sulphur

Sulphur, LA – Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022, CPSO deputies were dispatched to a business on North Cities Service Highway in Sulphur in reference to an armed robbery.

During the preliminary investigation, the victim told deputies that he was inside his truck when an acquaintance, Joseph A. Ripley, 35, of DeQuincy, LA, opened his passenger’s side door, pointed a gun at him, and demanded money. The victim stated that he did not have any cash, but used a mobile payment app to transfer all of the money in his bank account to Ripley. According to the victim, after the incident, he drove to a nearby parking lot, where he contacted law enforcement, and Ripley entered the establishment.

Deputies found Ripley inside the business and patted him down for officer safety, during which they discovered a handgun on his person. Ripley, a convicted felon, was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, where he was charged with armed robbery, negligent carrying of a concealed handgun, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The next day, he was released on a $107,500 bond set by Judge Tony Fazzio.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who witnessed the armed robbery or has any information about it to call Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-491-3605.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
