Deputy in Louisiana Working Nearby Security Detail Captures Credit Union Robbery Suspect in East Baton Rouge Parish

East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana – A deputy working a nearby security detail captured a suspect in a credit union robbery in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO) disclosed on May 1, 2023, that they received a call at approximately 10:45 a.m. in relation to a man who allegedly entered the Exxon Federal Credit Union on Scenic Highway and delivered the teller a note claiming he had a gun and demanded money.

The man fled on foot when the teller gave him cash. A Deputy on security detail at a nearby facility recognized the suspect and detained him on Winnebago Street following a brief foot pursuit, according to EBRSO dispatch. The suspect was reportedly in possession of the credit union money and made a complete confession.

Willie Landry, 58 was booked into parish prison for First Degree Robbery.

“I’m proud of the quick response of our communication division and our uniform patrol deputy,” Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said. “Their swift action led to a quick apprehension and recovery of the stolen money.”

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
