Union Parish, Louisiana – In October 2023, the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Monroe Field Office (LSP BOI MFO) Investigators were informed by the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office about a complaint regarding the use of excessive force by an on-duty deputy. The complaint stated that 22-year-old Brady Byrnes of Bernice, Louisiana had used unnecessary force on a non-aggressive individual who was already restrained with handcuffs.

Due to information gathered during the inquiry, LSP BOI MFO obtained an arrest warrant for Byrnes on charges of malfeasance in office and simple battery. Byrnes was then taken into custody on March 6, 2024, and placed in the Union Parish Detention Center without any trouble.

The Louisiana State Police will be the primary agency conducting the investigation, which is still ongoing.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
