Deadly RV Fire Being Investigated by Louisiana State Fire Marshal

Louisiana – The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office (LASFM) is still investigating a deadly RV fire that occurred near Amelia at the end of last week.

On Friday, September 9, 2022, just before 1:30 p.m., the Amelia Fire Department responded to a report of a recreational vehicle (RV) fire in the 200 block of West Side Park Lane. Unfortunately, firemen discovered the body of a female victim in the motor home’s kitchenette.

Official identification and cause of death are pending with the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office, but the victim is thought to be the home’s sole 40-year-old inhabitant.
SFM deputies found the fire started in the kitchenette section of the RV where the victim was located after assessing the scene and gathering witness accounts.

While the specific reason is unknown, deputies have not ruled out the likelihood of various potential contributing factors, such as an electrical malfunction caused by improper electrical connections, unattended cooking, and/or unsafe smoking activities.

The presence of working smoke detectors in the RV was not confirmed by deputies. The LASFM would like to remind Louisiana citizens that having a working smoke alarm in their sleeping area, no matter how temporary or unconventional, can be beneficial.

Operations Save-A-Life can assist you in obtaining smoke alarms for your house. The initiative collaborates with local fire departments to provide free smoke alarm installation. Follow this link to learn more about Operation Save-A-Life.
