Deadly Officer Involved Shooting In Louisiana Being Investigated After Suspect Crashes Vehicle and Confronts Officers with a Gun

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police has reported that the preliminary investigation found that the United States Marshals Task Force, comprising of officers of multiple local law enforcement organizations, was looking for 51-year-old David Gerard Jones of Baton Rouge, Louisiana soon after 7:00 a.m. on September 29, 2022. Jones was wanted on a number of felony warrants. Jones was seen driving a black Toyota Venza in a residential neighborhood near Baker by Task Force personnel. Jones allegedly attempted to run and purposely crashed into one of the Task Force members’ vehicles during the confrontation.
Jones then exited his truck and allegedly opened fire on Task Force officers. Jones then began fleeing through the neighborhood in an attempt to avoid arrest. Jones was approached again by Task Force members in the driveway of a private property, where he confronted authorities with a handgun. Jones was then met with gunfire from authorities. Jones was struck several times and died at the scene as a result of his injuries. During this encounter, no officers were wounded.
Louisiana State Police Detectives will continue to analyze all evidence and circumstances of the incident as the investigation develops to ensure a complete and thorough investigation. All investigative findings will be sent to the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office once completed.

Louisiana – According to Louisiana State Police, the US Marshals Service requested the LSP Bureau of Investigation to investigate a shooting incident involving members of the fugitive task force on September 29, 2022, shortly after 8:00 a.m. The shooting happened in East Baton Rouge Parish, near the 17000 block of Wisdom Drive.
According to the preliminary investigation, members of the task force were conducting an investigation around the 17000 block of Truth Drive shortly after 7:00 a.m. when they came across an active fugitive. One suspect has died. The scene is being processed for evidence by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
