Data Breach Reported by City of Lake Charles on December 28, 2018
On December 28, 2018, the City of Lake Charles reported that there was a data breach of their computer systems.
A data breach is an unauthorized access to computer systems and data storage devices that typically contain private and personal information not meant to be accessed by the public. The City of Lake Charles has reported that there is no evidence of any misuse of data due to the breach. This is a typical statement released soon after most data breaches occur.
It has also been reported that the city is working with computer forensics experts on the issue. Currently, none of the cities police, fire, or other public safety departments are affected and the city website is still online.
