Cyclist in Louisiana Killed in Morning Crash Near LA 1 in Iberville Parish

Iberville Parish, Louisiana – A cyclist in Louisiana was killed in a morning crash near LA 1 in Iberville Parish.

Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that during the morning of February 24, 2023, Troopers with LSP Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle crash involving a bicyclist on LA 1 south of LA 75 in Iberville Parish.

Jeross Banks, 41, of Plaquemine, Louisiana, died as a result of the crash.

The initial inquiry found that Banks was riding his bicycle south on LA 1. A 2012 Dodge Ram was heading south on LA 1 behind Banks at the same time. The Ram collided with the back of the bicycle for unknown reasons.

Banks was riding his bike without lights and was wearing dark apparel at the time of the crash. Banks died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ram’s driver was securely restrained and did not sustain any injuries.

A toxicological sample was acquired from the driver of the Ram and Banks for analysis as part of the ongoing inquiry. This crash is still being investigated.

Basic precautions like wearing an appropriate bicycle helmet, using reflective materials, and avoiding distractions are critical to avoiding crashes and injuries.
