Crash in Moss Bluff Claims the Life of a Lake Charles Woman

A November 14 crash on North Perkins Ferry Road in Moss Bluff claimed the life of a Lake Charles woman.
Lake Charles, LA – Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched near the intersection of North Perkins Ferry Road and Highway 171 in Moss Bluff at around 6:00 a.m. on November 14, 2021, in connection to a single-vehicle crash with an SUV on fire.
The SUV was traveling on N. Perkins Ferry Road when it ran off the road in a curve for unexplained reasons, according to the preliminary investigation. Alicia D. Smith, 40, of Lake Charles, was thrown from the SUV. The automobile is thought to have caught fire as a result of the collision’s damage. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was confirmed dead later. At the time of the accident, she was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash is thought to have been caused by speed. Toxicology tests will be carried out as required by state law.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Sr. Cpls. Cameron Hicks and Cody Fontenot are the lead investigators on this crash.
