Sulphur, Louisiana – On May 9, 2024, the City of Sulphur took a significant step towards enhancing water pressure by replacing a service pump at the water plant on Gradney Street. This move aims to ensure a more reliable and efficient water distribution system for residents in the area.

As a result of this upgrade, residents may encounter temporary instances of discolored water flowing from their taps. The City of Sulphur is actively engaged in a system-wide flushing of hydrants to mitigate this discoloration issue.

Discolored water, often appearing brown or yellow, can be a common occurrence after maintenance or upgrades in the water system. The discoloration is primarily caused by the disturbance of sediments in the pipes, which are harmless but can affect the water’s appearance.

The flushing of system-wide hydrants is a measure employed by the city to address the discoloration problem. By flushing the hydrants, the city aims to clear out any trapped sediments and restore water clarity to its usual state.

During this period, residents are advised to run their cold water taps for a few minutes to help clear out any discolored water from their pipes. Some residents may also want to avoid doing laundry with discolored water to prevent staining of clothes.
