City of Sulphur to Conduct Sewer Line Smoke Test to Detect Leaks

By Calcasieu Staff

Published October 28, 2024

Sulphur, Louisiana - The City of Sulphur's Public Works Maintenance department will conduct a sewer line smoke test on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, as part of its ongoing efforts to detect and repair leaks in the city's sewer system. The test is scheduled to take place from approximately 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the area surrounding Patch Street and Wright Road.

During the test, smoke will be blown into the sewer lines to help identify any leaks or defects in the system. The smoke, which is non-toxic and non-flammable, will rise to the surface through any openings or cracks in the pipes, allowing maintenance personnel to pinpoint the locations of the leaks. The smoke is expected to be visible in the area, and residents are advised not to be alarmed if they see it.

The sewer line smoke test is a standard procedure used by municipalities to detect leaks and prevent sewage backups. It is also an effective way to identify areas where tree roots or other debris may be obstructing the flow of wastewater.
