City of Sulphur Announces Water System Flush, Residents Can Expect Discolored Water

Sulphur, Louisiana – The City of Sulphur announced on September 7, 2022, that the Sulphur Fire Department will be flowing and inspecting the city’s fire hydrants from September 7th, 2022, through October 7th, 2022.

Residents may experience discolored tap water while firefighters flush the city’s fire hydrants. This annual testing is required to keep the Fire Department’s Class 2 fire classification and to guarantee that hydrants are working properly for fire protection.

While testing monitors the city’s water system’s health and detects weak spots, it also cleans and flushes away sediments that accumulate in the water pipes. This technique may create temporary discoloration in your water, but it is not harmful.

Before washing clothes or drinking, residents are encouraged to run the water until it is clear. In most cases, the water will clear in about five minutes. Residents should wait an hour and try again if the discoloration persists.
