CENTRAL LOUISIANA — A two-day law enforcement operation in central Louisiana has resulted in 124 arrests and the seizure of multiple firearms and illegal drugs, officials announced Wednesday.
The Central Louisiana Violent Crime Abatement Team (VCAT) conducted what authorities described as a "highly successful criminal enforcement detail" involving seven law enforcement agencies working in collaboration across the region.
The initiative brought together the Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Probation and Parole, Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office, Office of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Pineville Police Department, and the Alexandria Police Department in a coordinated effort to combat violent crime.
According to the official report, the operation specifically targeted individuals involved in weapons violations, violent crimes, possession of stolen property, and drug-related offenses.
The two-day initiative yielded significant results, including the seizure of 14 firearms and various illegal substances. Drug confiscations included 2.11 pounds of marijuana, 5 grams of crack cocaine, 84 grams of methamphetamine, 44 grams of fentanyl, and 211 prescription pills.
Law enforcement officers also issued 36 traffic citations during the operation, seized approximately $5,046 in currency, and confiscated one vehicle.
The multi-agency approach highlights growing efforts across Louisiana to coordinate resources between local, state and federal agencies to address violent crime and drug trafficking more effectively.
Fentanyl, one of the drugs seized during the operation, has become a particular concern for law enforcement nationwide. The synthetic opioid is significantly more potent than heroin and has been linked to numerous overdose deaths across the United States in recent years.
Authorities did not release information about specific charges filed against those arrested or details about upcoming court proceedings.
