Carlyss, Louisiana – Calcasieu Parish officials report the Carlyss Drive Extension Phase 2 project remains on schedule for completion by summer 2026, marking a significant infrastructure milestone for the community.

Parish Engineer Nick Johnson provided an update on the major transportation initiative, which represents the second phase of an ambitious plan to connect Louisiana Highway 1256 to Louisiana Highway 27, also known as Beglis Parkway.

The current phase will complete the connection that began with Phase 1, establishing a crucial transportation link in the Carlyss area. The project encompasses construction of a two-lane roadway featuring a raised median designed to enhance safety and manage traffic access more effectively.

Pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure represents a key component of the development. Plans include installation of a six-foot sidewalk alongside a 10-foot bike path, providing dedicated space for non-motorized transportation and improving overall safety for community members.

The scope extends beyond surface improvements to address fundamental infrastructure needs. Construction includes subsurface drainage enhancements and installation of two concrete box culverts, each measuring six feet by six feet. These culverts will allow the new roadway to cross existing drainage ditches without disrupting water flow patterns.

Utility infrastructure forms another critical element of the project. Water and sewer mains will be installed along the route to support both current residents and anticipated future development in the area.

Johnson emphasized the project’s role in establishing connectivity within Carlyss, describing it as setting the foundation for future growth and development opportunities. The extension addresses longstanding transportation challenges while creating potential for economic expansion.

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has overseen the project’s development and implementation. The initiative represents a significant investment in local infrastructure designed to improve safety, expand access, and accommodate projected population and commercial growth.

Construction crews continue work on various project components as officials maintain their timeline for summer 2026 completion.

Upon completion, the Carlyss Drive Extension will provide a direct route between two major highways, reducing travel times and improving traffic flow throughout the region. The infrastructure improvements are expected to benefit both current residents and future development projects in the Carlyss area.
