Carlyss, Louisiana – A fatal crash occurred on Carlyss Drive in Carlyss, Louisiana, late on September 25, claiming the life of a 29-year-old bicyclist. According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the incident at approximately 10:00 p.m.

The investigation revealed that Austin Herring, a 29-year-old resident of Zachary, Louisiana, was riding his bicycle southbound on Carlyss Drive near the shoulder. Meanwhile, the driver of a truck, also traveling south, struck Herring’s bicycle from behind.

Further investigation by the authorities found that Herring’s bicycle did not have any lights, which may have contributed to the crash. Herring was airlifted to a hospital out of town for medical treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries over the weekend. The coroner will determine the official cause of death.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident, but initial findings suggest that impairment is not believed to be a factor.

This incident highlights the importance of bicycle safety and the need for both drivers and cyclists to exercise caution when sharing the road. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
