Calcasieu River, English Bayou, and Area Boat Launches Closed Due to Flooding

Due to the recent heavy rains, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness have issued an Emergency Declaration to close the Calcasieu River and the English Bayou, effective immediately.

The closure order is for the Calcasieu River, English Bayou and all areas north of the Saltwater Barrier to the parish line, including the West Fork of the Calcasieu River.

The emergency declaration prohibits all recreational boat traffic on the Calcasieu River and the English Bayou.

Additionally, parish officials said the following boat launches remain closed:

  • River Bluff Park
  • White Oak Park
  • LA 108
  • Anthony Ferry
  • Vinton Canal.

Only the boat launches at these parks will be affected. The parks will remain open. The only parish park that is closed is Alligator Park, located off LA 109 north of Starks.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Division patrols will be out to enforce these closures.

The order will remain in place until river levels return to normal.
