Calcasieu Parish Youth Education and Training Opportunity Fair in Lake Charles Set for May 14

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury announced on May 3, 2022, that young people ages 16 to 24 are invited to participate in the American Job Center’s Youth Education and Training Opportunity Fair, which will take place on Saturday, May 14, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the American Job Center, 2424 Third St., Lake Charles.

The event’s goal is to connect young people in the area with employment and educational opportunities. They can learn about job opportunities, on-the-job training, and tuition assistance, as well as the training required for Class A commercial driver’s licenses, certified medical assistants, HVAC, pipefitting, non-destructive testing, and other occupations.

Several local employers will be present to conduct interviews and accept applications for full-time, part-time, and summer positions. Representatives from local universities, colleges, and post-secondary institutions will also be on hand to answer questions about specific curricula that will prepare them for jobs in high-demand occupations.

Those planning to attend should dress professionally for interviews and bring copies of their resumes.

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, the Workforce Development Board (WDB), and the Louisiana Workforce Commission are sponsoring the Youth Training Fair, which is funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

Those interested can follow this link to RSVP, or call the American Job Center at 337-721-4010 for more information.
