Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – Starting Monday, November 18, residents of Calcasieu Parish Water Districts Nos. 2, 5, 8, and 12 may notice Utiliserve crews conducting fire hydrant inspections, flushing, and testing in their neighborhoods. This process, which will continue until the end of 2024, aims to ensure that all fire hydrants are functioning properly and meet the requirements of the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) fire insurance rating.
The testing process involves flushing fire hydrants to remove any sediment or debris that may have accumulated, which can cause discolored water in the surrounding areas. Residents are advised to limit their water usage if they see the Utiliserve crews in their neighborhood to minimize the chance of getting discolored water in their homes.
If discolored water does occur, residents are instructed to run their tap for approximately two minutes to see if the water clears. If the issue persists, they can call 337-721-3754 for assistance. The water districts will take necessary steps to flush the discolored water from the lines. Residents with any questions or concerns can also reach out to Carie Davis at the same phone number.
The fire hydrant testing is a crucial step in maintaining the water districts’ fire insurance rating, which can impact property insurance rates for residents. By ensuring that all fire hydrants are functioning properly, the water districts can help protect their communities and provide peace of mind for residents.
