Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – Around 10:00 a.m. on March 7, a deputy from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) pulled over a vehicle on the eastbound side of I-10, between Lake Charles and Iowa, Louisiana, close to mile marker 38.

While searching the vehicle during a traffic stop, the deputy found illegal drugs. The suspect then jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off with the deputy still inside. The deputy ordered the suspect to stop, but he refused, so the deputy shot and wounded the suspect.

The vehicle crash led to both the suspect and deputy being taken to a nearby hospital.

The investigation is currently in its initial phases and is ongoing. CPSO will look into the drug allegations, the attempted murder of a deputy, and the deputy’s kidnapping.

Sheriff Tony Mancuso has asked the Louisiana State Police to investigate the shooting involving an officer.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
