Lake Charles – With grant support from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is taking part in a national crackdown on drunk driving. The ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign, which begins Saturday, December 18 and concludes January 1, is a collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to reduce impaired driving and save lives.

Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso said, “According to the NHTSA in 2019 there were over 10,000 people killed in preventable drunk driving-related crashes in the United States. In Louisiana, 30% of traffic fatalities were due to impaired driving. Being a responsible driver is simple, if you are drinking do not drive. By joining this nationwide effort, we will make Calcasieu Parish roadways safer for everyone,”
