Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office announced plans to conduct a seatbelt checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the parish on Saturday, April 26. The enforcement effort aims to ensure motorist compliance with Louisiana’s mandatory seatbelt laws.

The checkpoint, funded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, will specifically target drivers and passengers who fail to buckle up. Louisiana law requires all vehicle occupants to wear seatbelts, including those riding in back seats.

Traffic safety experts consistently point to seatbelt use as one of the most effective ways to reduce crash fatalities. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seatbelts reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45% and the risk of moderate-to-critical injuries by 50%.

The Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed the exact location or time of the checkpoint, which is standard practice for such enforcement operations.

Drivers are encouraged to ensure all passengers are properly restrained before traveling on parish roads this weekend. Citations may be issued to drivers who fail to comply with the state’s seatbelt requirements.
