Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Responds to Flooding in Lake Charles
From CPSO – With the flooding that occurred earlier today the Calcasieu Parish Sheriffs Office handled numerous calls on flooded roadways. CPSO deployed 3 high water vehicles and 5 CPSO Marine Division 4-wheel drive trucks, both with 2 man teams, and had approximately 8 patrol deputies answering only flood-related calls. The Lake Charles area experienced heavy flooding in several areas which resulted in the Sheriff’s Office conducting 10 rescues of local residents from their homes in the south Lake Charles area. CPSO deputies also rescued 32 people that were stranded in their vehicles on the flooded roadways.
“Today is the first time we have had to deploy our high water vehicles that we procured in June 2018. We are very fortunate to have them when we have flooding incidents like the one today,” says Sheriff Tony Mancuso. “These vehicles proved to be invaluable in rescuing people in their homes and cars.”
These vehicles are able to drive through three feet of water and are positioned throughout the parish.
