Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigates a Fatal Accident Involving a Vehicle and Bicycle in Starks

From CPSO – October 19, 2019, at approximately 8:00 p.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident involving a bicycle and a Jeep in Starks. The investigation revealed Charles Edgar, Jr., 62, Starks, was riding his bicycle in the middle of the roadway traveling south on Old River Road near the intersection of JE Miller Road. The driver of the Jeep, who was also traveling south, struck Edgar’s bicycle from behind. Further investigation revealed that Edgar, who was wearing dark clothing, had no front or rear lights on the bicycle and the area where the crash occurred was dark because there were no street lights.
Edgar was pronounced dead at the scene. As mandated by state law, a toxicology report will be conducted on the driver of the Jeep.
