Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana to Conduct a DWI Checkpoint and Increase Patrols During ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ Campaign
Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – On December 14, 2022, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office stated that, using grant assistance from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, it will participate in the national crackdown on drunk driving.
‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ is a cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to reduce impaired driving and save lives. It runs from Friday, December 16 through Sunday, January 1. During this campaign, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a DWI checkpoint and increase the number of deputies on the road to target drivers under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. On Friday, December 30, the checkpoint will be held at an unannounced site within the parish.
“In 2021 more than half of the traffic fatalities the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated involved impairment. Crashes involving impairment can be easily prevented and being a responsible driver is simple, if you are drinking do not drive. By joining this nationwide effort, we will make Calcasieu Parish roadways safer for everyone,” said Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso.
