Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Implements Annual Robbery Prevention Mobilization as Christmas Approaches

Published November 29, 2021

Lake Charles, LA – The Annual Robbery Prevention Mobilization (RPM) has been implemented by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office in an effort to deter crime and assist shoppers in the Prien Lake Mall parking lot during the holiday season, which began Friday, November 26, and will run through December 26, seven days a week from 10 a.m. until one hour after mall closing.

The deputies will be patrolling the parking lot in marked ATVs and patrol cars, as well as manning the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Mobile Command Center in the mall’s parking lot near the intersection of Prien Lake Road and Ernest Street. During the evening hours, deputies wearing orange Sheriff’s Office traffic vests will be available to help shoppers with things like finding their car, jump starting their car if the battery dies, changing a flat tire, assisting employees and shoppers by walking them to their car after dark, and any other assistance they can provide.

This special detail of CPSO deputies is working to serve the public during the busy Christmas season. They were not recruited by the mall, and they will not be providing security for it. The presence of law enforcement officers on the grounds, on the other hand, is intended to dissuade criminality in the parking lot.
During the holiday season, deputies will make regular visits to all convenience stores in the parish to check with store employees to see if they are having any problems or if they have any particular needs.

“The CPSO Robbery Prevention Mobilization has always been instrumental in, not only assisting shoppers with their problems and concerns but keeping crime to a minimum at a time of year when it is usually on the rise,” says Sheriff Tony Mancuso. “This will be the eighteenth year we have organized RPM and we are very pleased to be able to offer this service to the public.”
