Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Receives 2019 DARE Officer of the Year Award

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Lees Young was presented with the 2019 D.A.R.E. Officer of the Year Award for her continued hard work and dedication to the Louisiana D.A.R.E. program. Sgt. Young was presented with the award at the 28th Annual Louisiana D.A.R.E. Officer Training Conference that was held in Lake Charles in July.

Sgt. Young was chosen out of several nominees throughout the state. She has been employed at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office since 1991 and has been a D.A.R.E. officer for the last eighteen years. During her time as D.A.R.E. Officer, she has been teaching the program to fifth and seventh-grade students at schools in Calcasieu Parish. The D.A.R.E. program educates students about violence, bullying, alcohol, and drugs and allows our deputies to build positive relationships with the students.

“Sgt. Young is a hard-working deputy who is committed to the future of the youth in our parish. I am so pleased she is being recognized; after almost two decades of teaching D.A.R.E. in our area schools, she is still motivated to make a positive impact on our youth and makes a lasting impression not only in the classroom but with her fellow deputies. I am proud to say she works for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office,” says Sheriff Tony Mancuso.
