Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso Announces Retirement After 19 Years as Sheriff and Many More Years of Service to Southwest Louisiana

Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana –  Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso announced on February 8, 2023, that he will not run for re-election in the fall of 2023.

Sheriff Mancuso began working for the Sheriff’s Office in 1984. He worked in several divisions of the Sheriff’s Office during his early career, including Corrections, Patrol, and Youth. Mancuso was elected Ward 3 City Marshal in 1996 and re-elected for a second term in 2002. Mancuso was elected Sheriff of Calcasieu Parish in October 2003 and took office in July 2004. He was re-elected without opposition in 2007, 2011, and 2015, and will be re-elected after the 2019 election. Sheriff Mancuso is currently in his fifth term.

During his tenure as Sheriff, he has brought the Sheriff’s Office into the twenty-first century by acquiring cutting-edge technology, equipment, and law enforcement resources. Despite many challenges during his tenure as Sheriff, including Hurricanes Rita, Laura, and Delta, a quadruple homicide, and three line-of-duty deaths, Mancuso has been instrumental in bringing the Southwest Louisiana law enforcement community together to demonstrate a spirit of cooperation second to none in the country.

In a press release on Wednesday, February 8, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso said, “My focus has always been the safety of our community and the integrity of our deputies here at the Sheriff’s Office. My goal was to bring this department to the cutting edge of law enforcement procedures and technology and afford our deputies the opportunity to receive the best training for their day-to-day duties, as well as specialized trainings, to better serve our community. I achieved the goals I set for this department and myself, and I feel I have done much more; none of which would have been possible without the Command Staff and leaders who always supported my decisions. I have had a wonderful ride the last almost 40 years and it has been a privilege to serve the residents in Calcasieu Parish. I hope you think I did a good job as your Sheriff and I want our community to know I never took your trust or vote for granted. It is now time to take a vacation and spend time with my grandkids.”
