Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Probes Fatal 4th of July Shooting in DeQuincy

DeQuincy, Louisiana – A shooting in DeQuincy, Louisiana, late on July 4 resulted in the death of a local resident and left another man hospitalized. According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call at approximately 10 p.m. in the 1100 block of Allen Street, where they discovered Cortez D. Boston, 26, of DeQuincy, deceased at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.

Deputies learned that a second individual involved in the incident was also shot and had already been transported to a local hospital for emergency surgery. Authorities confirmed that the preliminary investigation indicates both men were actively participating in the shooting.

Multiple witnesses have been interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information related to the shooting to contact them at 337-491-3605. Detective Lauren Manuel is currently leading the investigation.

The incident occurred while many residents were celebrating Independence Day, highlighting the importance of safety and vigilance during large gatherings. While the identity of the hospitalized man has not been released, officials state he remains under medical care.
