Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – In a recent assessment conducted by the Calcasieu Parish School Board (CPSB) on May 14, it was determined that all schools and facilities within the district will be open as usual tomorrow, with the exception of Maplewood Middle, Maplewood Elementary, T.H. Watkins Elementary, and College Oaks Elementary. As of the time this was published, these schools will remain closed due to ongoing power restoration challenges.

CPSB has assured families that an update regarding the status of these schools will be provided by 9 p.m. on May 14, 2024, to offer clarity on whether classes will resume the following day. The board emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment before reopening the affected schools.

For the schools that will be open, CPSB has advised that arrival and take-in procedures might experience slight delays throughout the district. This delay is attributed to the ongoing efforts in debris removal and repairs to ensure the safety and functionality of the school premises for students and staff.

In light of the closures, CPSB stated that students who were scheduled to take Advanced Placement (AP) exams today will receive updated testing schedule information upon their return to school.
