Calcasieu Parish School Board Stops In-Person Classes at Westlake High School Due to COVID-19 Concerns

Published December 15, 2020

On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, the Calcasieu Parish School Board announced that Westlake High School will move to remote learning beginning Wednesday, December 16, 2020, due to several staff members being quarantined after testing positive for or possible being exposed to COVID-19.

From CPSB – This information is for our Westlake High School families. We will need to move to remote learning beginning tomorrow, December 16, and continuing for the remainder of the week. There are a number of staff that are quarantined due to testing positive or due to potential COVID-19 exposure. At this point, it is not possible for us to obtain all needed substitutes to conduct face-to-face instruction safely for the remainder of the week. In addition to staffing needs, COVID-19 is also affecting our student population, which greatly factored into our decision to move to remote learning. We feel this decision is in the best safety interest of all faculty, staff, and students.

Westlake High staff will be in contact with families as to how learning will proceed for the next three days. The remote learning will be a combination of virtual instruction and paper packets. We will also be sharing information with families in regards to meal distribution for these days of remote learning.

We appreciate your understanding and all that you have done to help us mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Please know that these decisions are not taken lightly, but the safety of all stakeholders will always be our number one priority.

We look forward to seeing our face-to-face students back in the classroom on Monday, January 4.
