Published October 19, 2021

The Calcasieu Parish School Board announced that on October 19, 2021, the district received $89.9 million in FEMA reimbursement representing 80% of their post-storm remediation projects. CPSB also received the proceeds of their recent $25 million borrowings. Architects and contractors are being notified to lift suspensions of work. Construction will resume on all of Calcasieu Parish School Board projects that were suspended as soon as crews can mobilize.

CPSB also thanked the public for their patience.

On September 8, 2021, the Calcasieu Parish School Board announced that all hurricane recovery construction projects in the district were halted due to financial issues. Damages from Hurricane Laura and Hurricane Delta totaled an estimated $400 million, and with the absence of FEMA reimbursement, the school system did not have the funds available to continue the projects.
