Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana - The Calcasieu Parish School Board convened on January 14, 2025, to address several important matters affecting the district's educational environment and services. Among the highlights of the meeting, Maplewood Middle Band Director Kyle Cook received recognition for his outstanding achievement in winning the prestigious Milken Award earlier this school year. This accolade honors exceptional educators who are making significant contributions to their schools and communities.
In a move aimed at enhancing school safety, the Board approved a new contract with Allied for security services, which will replace the previous vendor. This contract will remain in effect for the duration of the 2024-2025 school year. Security officers will continue to perform the same duties as their predecessors, ensuring that students and staff feel safe on campus.
Additionally, the Board granted approval for a cooperative endeavor agreement with McNeese State University. This partnership will facilitate diagnostic and repair services for university musical instruments through the Department of Visual and Performing Arts of the Calcasieu Parish School Board.
The district's contract for Athletic Training Services with Lake Charles Memorial Hospital was also extended. This agreement is now set to continue through July 31, 2029.
Looking ahead, the Board announced a Curriculum and Instruction Committee meeting scheduled for January 28 at 5 p.m. Following this meeting, the Superintendent's Evaluation Instrument Committee will convene to discuss performance assessments of district leadership.
