Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish School Board has announced the appointment of Dr. Jason VanMetre as the new Superintendent of Schools, effective Thursday, July 11. Dr. VanMetre, who currently serves as the district’s Chief Academic Officer, brings a wealth of educational experience and district-level leadership to the position.
In a statement, Dr. VanMetre expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the district, saying, “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as the new Superintendent of the Calcasieu Parish School Board. This district is home to phenomenal students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders, and I am honored to begin leading such a dedicated team.”
With over 20 years of experience within the Calcasieu Parish School Board (CPSB), Dr. VanMetre has demonstrated a deep commitment to navigating coming changes, elevating academics, cultivating employee relationships, and communicating effectively. His career with CPSB includes serving as the Director of Management Information Systems, Principal at Westlake High School, Assistant Principal at Sulphur High School, and a teacher at Barbe High School.
Dr. VanMetre emphasized his people-centered approach, stating, “I truly believe that it is all about people, all the time, and I’m excited to be in our schools in this new role to engage, assist, and listen to members of our CPSB family.” He added, “We will work together to continue fostering learning environments where everyone feels safe, supported, and successful. Even with changes coming our way with a new accountability system, new evaluation system, and potential funding adjustments, I am confident that we will continue to successfully build foundations for the future.”
Dr. VanMetre holds a degree in biology education and a master’s in educational administration from McNeese State University, as well as a doctorate in educational leadership from Lamar University.
