Calcasieu Parish School Board Announces Planned Early Dismissal January 24 Due Expected High Winds

Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – Calcasieu Parish School Board in Southwest Louisiana has made the decision to close all schools and facilities early due to the weather forecast, citing student safety concerns with expected high winds.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board (CPSB) announced on January 23, 2023, that after closely monitoring the weather forecast, they have decided to close all Calcasieu Parish Schools and facilities on January 24.

Dismissal will begin at 11:45 a.m., according to the CPSB. School officials stated that with sustained winds nearing 30 miles per hour by mid-afternoon, student safety becomes a concern. The school board members also stated that the safety of students, faculty, and staff will always be their top priority and that they believe this decision is in everyone’s best interests.

Students will be dismissed according to normal transportation plans, and all students will be provided with lunch before leaving campus. Students who are normally transported to different campuses during the day will not be transported on January 24, and all after-school activities have been canceled. The Curriculum and Instruction Committee meeting has been rescheduled.
