Calcasieu Parish Roadwork: Lane Closures on LA 384 Southbound Near Lake Charles Announced for June

Published June 02, 2025

Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana — Motorists traveling south of Lake Charles on Louisiana Highway 384 should prepare for intermittent right lane closures throughout June, as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced upcoming roadwork for utility-related improvements. The partial closure will affect LA 384 Southbound between Lisle Peters Road and Broussard Lane, with disruptions scheduled Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., starting June 2 and ending June 27, 2025.

The planned roadwork is part of ongoing utility upgrades aimed at enhancing infrastructure reliability in Calcasieu Parish. According to DOTD officials, the right lane of LA 384 Southbound will be closed intermittently during work hours, while at least one lane will remain open to traffic at all times. The closure zone stretches south of Lake Charles, a region known for its commuter traffic as well as local and industrial transport.

What Drivers Need to Know

The closure is considered "partial," which means the entire roadway will not be shut down. Instead, the right lane will be temporarily unavailable at different times during the day, depending on the specific needs of utility crews.

Drivers are encouraged to stay alert for posted signage, flaggers, and changing traffic patterns in the work zone. DOTD recommends allowing extra travel time, considering alternate routes when possible, and always exercising caution near roadside workers.

Impact on Local Community and Commuters

The affected stretch of LA 384 is a key route for residents of southern Calcasieu Parish, including those commuting to and from Lake Charles for work, school, or errands. The intermittent closures may lead to slower movement through the area.
