Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Housing Department is set to accept applications for the Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher Program waiting list on October 30. The first 500 applicants will be accepted from 8 a.m. to noon at the Allen P. August Multipurpose Annex, 2000 Moeling Street, Lake Charles.
The Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher Program, administered by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), provides rental assistance to eligible low-income families. To qualify, applicants must meet specific income limits and other requirements, including being considered a family under HUD’s definition.
According to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Housing Department, any Calcasieu Parish resident can apply, but upon reeiving assistance, recipients will be required to live outside of city limits.
To apply, each applicant must provide a valid driver’s license or photo ID and the social security cards of all household members.
The Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher Program is designed to help low-income families afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing. Under the program, recipients pay 30% to 40% of their income towards rent, while the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Housing Department pays the remaining balance.
To be eligible, applicants must meet specific income limits, which vary based on family size.
