Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Announces the Return of “Movies Under the Stars” on July 14 and July 21

Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has recently revealed that “Movies Under the Stars” is set to make a comeback on both July 14 and July 21, offering two beloved movies suitable for the whole family.

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” a computer-animated adventure film based on Nintendo’s famous Mario video games, kicks off the excitement on Friday, July 14, at Prien Lake Park (3700 West Prien Lake Road, Lake Charles). This 2023 film delves into the origin story of the Italian-American plumber brothers, Mario and Luigi, as they find themselves transported to another world and caught up in a fierce battle between the Mushroom Kingdom, ruled by Princess Peach, and the Koopas, led by Bowser (voiced by Chris Pratt and Jack Black, respectively). (The movie has a PG rating).

Residents are also invited to attend the screening of the movie “The Parent Trap” from 1998 at River Bluff Park (543 Theriot Road, Moss Bluff) on Friday, July 21. This delightful romantic comedy tells the story of identical twins Annie and Hallie, both portrayed by Lindsay Lohan. They were separated at birth and brought up by their respective biological parents, essayed by Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson. The sisters meet for the first time at summer camp and devise a clever scheme to reunite their parents. This film is rated PG.

Both films will begin at 6:30 p.m., so it is advised to arrive early to secure prime seats. It is recommended for residents to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs. Additionally, residents are permitted to bring their own food. Complimentary popcorn and cotton candy will be provided at both screenings.

If the weather is bad, movies will not be shown. The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s website at calcasieu.gov, as well as CPPJ’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages, will announce any cancellations before the event.
