Calcasieu Parish ‘Let’s Talk Drainage’ 3rd Virtual Session Scheduled, Sessions 1 & 2 Recordings Available for Viewing
Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s (CPPJ) Division of Engineering and Public Works, along with Calcasieu Parish Regional Watershed Management, announced on July 27, 2022, that the third virtual session of the four-part webinar series, “Let’s Talk Drainage,” will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.
According to CPPJ, the overarching goal of this series is to discuss the numerous aspects that contribute to Calcasieu Parish’s present flooding vulnerabilities, explain various mitigation options and related costs, and design an overall approach to mitigate these vulnerabilities within acceptable boundaries.
This third session will take place on Wednesday, August 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. It will concentrate on policies to aid in watershed management and floodplain protection.
Terry Frelot, Assistant Director of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Division of Engineering and Public Works; Jeanne Arceneaux Hornsby, Director of Engineering for C.H. Fenstermaker and Associates; and Gary O’Neal, Grants Manager for C.H. Fenstermaker and Associates will talk at this session.
“The lack of consistency among jurisdictional bodies has exacerbated the parish’s drainage problems,” Frelot said. “ The water does not see political boundaries, and therefore when projects or developments are built upstream of a system without mitigation elements in place, the water moves quicker downstream, often having a negative flooding impact.”
