Lake Charles, Louisiana - Deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will trade badges for aprons as they volunteer at the Special Olympics Louisiana “Tip-A-Cop” fundraiser on Monday, June 30. The event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. at Texas Roadhouse, located at 3431 Nelson Road in Lake Charles.

During the fundraiser, deputies will step in as “celebrity waiters,” working alongside the restaurant’s regular staff to help serve guests and act as hosts. All tips earned by deputies throughout the evening will be donated directly to Special Olympics Louisiana, supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Special Olympics Louisiana is recognized for empowering people with intellectual disabilities through year-round sports training and competitions. The organization reports that every $350 raised allows one athlete to train and compete for an entire year, opening doors to personal achievement and community involvement.

Sheriff Stitch Guillory of Calcasieu Parish highlighted the impact of the event, stating, “This is a great opportunity for the community to come out, enjoy a great meal, and visit with our deputies all while supporting a cause that truly makes a difference in people’s lives. Every dollar raised will help Special Olympics Louisiana continue its mission of inclusion and empowerment and we are proud to be a part of it.”

The Tip-A-Cop program is part of a broader fundraising campaign coordinated by the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics. These events bring together law enforcement and local communities to create partnerships, raise awareness, and support individuals with intellectual disabilities through sports and inclusion. Since its inception, LETR events like Tip-A-Cop have raised over $1 billion for Special Olympics programs worldwide, illustrating the power of community engagement and generosity.

Residents of Lake Charles and the surrounding area are encouraged to participate by dining at Texas Roadhouse during the event. Their tips not only support a charitable cause but also help foster a culture of inclusion and respect in Calcasieu Parish.
