LAKE CHARLES, La. — A 21-year-old Lake Charles man was arrested after a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a girl younger than 13, according to authorities.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched March 6 after receiving a report that a girl under the age of 13 had disclosed sexual abuse.
During the investigation, the victim identified Colbi J. Mayers, 21, of Lake Charles, as the person responsible, investigators said.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives later interviewed Mayers, who said he inappropriately touched the victim on three separate occasions. Investigators also said Mayers told detectives he recorded video footage of the child in an attempt to observe her in the bathroom.
Mayers was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He was charged with three counts of sexual battery of a victim under 13 and video voyeurism.
Sexual battery generally refers to unlawful sexual touching. Video voyeurism is a criminal charge involving the recording or observation of a person without consent in situations where privacy is expected, such as a bathroom.
Judge Hope Buford set Mayers’ bond at $700,000, according to the sheriff’s office.
The case remains under investigation by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. CPSO Special Victims Unit Detective Sonny Schiro is the lead investigator.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
