Calcasieu Parish Police Jurors Hear 2023 Citizen Survey Results
Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – In a recent meeting of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Ways and Means Committee, the 2023 Citizen Survey results were unveiled, shedding light on the sentiments of Calcasieu residents towards various aspects of their community. The survey, conducted by Management Consultant Dr. Robyn Stiles with Emergent Method on behalf of the CPPJ, aimed to gauge public opinion on key service areas and priorities.
A total of 1,396 Calcasieu residents participated in the anonymous and voluntary survey, which was carried out in December 2023. The survey results are set to play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the CPPJ, with Parish Administrator Bryan Beam expressing satisfaction at the record-high response rate. Beam stated, “The Police Jury benefits greatly from our annual Citizen Survey. I am very pleased that nearly 1,400 residents responded, the highest number we’ve ever received, which indicates that the public is engaged with our ongoing projects, programs, and policies.”
Among the key highlights of the survey results were the improvements noted in addressing litter and disaster recovery, with both areas receiving a commendable score of 2.2 on a three-point scale. Furthermore, over 49% of respondents expressed a likelihood to recommend Calcasieu Parish as a place to live, marking an increase of more than 8% from the previous year’s survey.
Citizens also emphasized the importance of continued focus on enhancing drainage systems, including the efficient maintenance of ditches and drainage laterals, as well as robust drainage planning, particularly in light of new developments in the area.
Looking ahead, the CPPJ has committed to conducting similar surveys on an annual basis to gather ongoing citizen feedback and monitor public perception regarding Police Jury services. The data collected from these surveys will be instrumental in informing the CPPJ’s Strategic Plan for 2024 and beyond, ensuring that the community’s evolving needs and priorities are duly considered and addressed.
