Calcasieu Parish Authorities Release Results of DWI Checkpoint

Lake Charles – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that they conducted a DWI checkpoint at 1313 Country Club Road in Lake Charles on Friday, February 18, 2022, to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and narcotics. On February 15, 2022, CPSO announced the checkpoint, but not the location.
CPSO reported the following information about the checkpoint:
- One thousand five hundred ninety-four vehicles were checked.
- Ten field sobriety tests were administered.
- Twenty-nine citations were issued for no seatbelt.
- Four citations were issued for no child restraint.
- Two citations were issued for no driver’s license.
- Thirteen citations were issued for expired motor vehicle inspection stickers.
- Four citations were issued for expired license plates.
- Seven citations were issued for illegal window tint.
- One citation was issued for a headlight violation.
The following individuals were booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center:
- Darien A. Bartie, 28, Lake Charles, arrested for illegal carrying of weapons in presence of CDS; illegal possession of a stolen firearm; possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and a traffic violation
- Corey P. Orgeron, 33, Lake Charles, arrested for possession of CDS III; possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and a traffic violation
The following individuals were issued a signed summons and released: - Breoisha C. Brooks, 29, TX, arrested for possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia
- Casey Fontenot, 28, Lake Charles, arrested for possession of marijuana
- 17 year old juvenile arrested for possession of marijuana; and DWI 1st
Participating in the checkpoint was the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police Troop D, Lake Charles Police Department, and Ward 3 Marshal’s Office.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged.
A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
