CalcasieuParish and Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that US 165 in Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis Parish will experience nightly closures starting Wednesday, October 30, 2024. The closures, which will affect both northbound and southbound traffic, are necessary for the installation of concrete girders for the I-10 Eastbound bridge.
According to the DOTD, the closures will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. and will impact US 165 at various points, including the intersection with LA 3258 and the I-10 Westbound off ramp. The closures are part of an ongoing construction project to improve the I-10 Eastbound bridge.
To minimize disruptions, the DOTD has established detour routes for both northbound and southbound traffic on US 165. For northbound traffic, drivers will be directed to head east onto the I-10 South Frontage Road, then north onto LA 101, and finally north onto US 165. Drivers traveling westbound on I-10 will be detoured onto LA 3258, then north onto LA 383, and finally west onto the I-10 Westbound on ramp at LA 383.
For southbound traffic on US 165, drivers will be directed to head west onto LA 101, then south onto LA 383, then east onto LA 3258, and finally south onto US 165. The I-10 Westbound on ramp will remain open to US 165 southbound traffic.
The construction project aims to improve the safety and efficiency of the I-10 Eastbound bridge. The installation of concrete girders is a critical step in the project, and the nightly closures are necessary to ensure the work is completed safely and efficiently.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow for extra time to complete their journeys. The detour routes are designed to minimize disruptions, but drivers should still expect delays. The DOTD will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
