Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – Residents in Calcasieu Parish are being cautioned by Sheriff Tony Mancuso about a recent scam. The scam involves individuals receiving phone calls claiming there is a civil issue that needs to be resolved, and if they fail to make a payment, it will escalate into a criminal matter with the issuance of an arrest warrant. The caller pretends to be a deputy from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and may use the name of a current CPSO deputy.
Sheriff Mancuso emphasizes that this is indeed a scam.
He wants to remind residents that legitimate arrest warrants are typically served in person by law enforcement officials, and under no circumstances would an officer ask for money or any form of payment over the phone. To avoid falling victim to such scams, he advises residents to resist making hasty decisions, verify information before sending money, and never send money based on phone or email requests.
If anyone suspects they have been targeted by these scammers, they are urged to contact the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-491-3605.
